Stephanie was referred to Youth Job Center from our employer partner, Banana Republic, to participate in the WILL program. Working part-time for $9 per hour, Stephanie’s store manager recognized her potential beyond her store. Stephanie had her bachelor’s degree but was not utilizing it in her work.
YJC career advisor Precious Wright matched Stephanie with a WILL mentor, who was the 9th ward Alderman of Evanston and an employee of Northwestern University. The mentor was able to help Stephanie land a role in her department and since then, Stephanie has continued to move up in her position, recently receiving a promotion to International Student Advisor, with a significant pay raise. She was also able to enroll into a graduate degree program at Northwestern, taking full advantage of the tuition reimbursement benefits she has earned being an official employee of the university.
