Q: How much time is required to volunteer?
A: The YJC has volunteer opportunities to fit a variety of schedules.
To find out about specific volunteer activities, check out these descriptions or contact us to learn more.

Q: How do I sign up for a specific volunteer opportunity?
A: The easiest way to start volunteering for a specific job is to sign up is to contact the YJC’s Volunteer Coordinator at 847-864-5627 ext. 21, or This e-mail address is being protected from spambots, you need JavaScript enabled to view it . The coordinator will contact you to let you know this and keep your contact information for future reference.

Q: Can groups volunteer?
A: Please do! We’re always looking to work with teams of talented people. We’ve had groups of more than 25 people work with us in the past. Depending on the project or event, we would love to host you as you help us change the lives of our youth.

Q: Is there a background check?
A: For the safety of our clients, we do background checks on all long-term volunteers or those working with youth under the age of 18.

Q: Is there an age limit to volunteer?
Volunteers must be at least 16 years of age.

Q: I’m not sure that I can attend the classes. Is there still a way that I can work with the youth?
A: Of course! We’re always looking for bright and talented people to sit down with and spend time working with and mentoring our clients. You can always set a time to come in and work with clients on resumes, interviewing skills, or creating life/career plans.

Q: Do I need special skills to work with the YJC?

A: We are always looking for committed volunteers from a variety of backgrounds. We have volunteers who run gamut of skills and abilities, ranging high school students to tenured professors. The two most important things that we need are your time and commitment. With these you can reach the youth of our community and make a real difference.
