When did you join the YJC Board?

1998

Why did you join the YJC Board?

One introductory breakfast meeting with Ann Jennett, YJC’s resourceful, dedicated and “unstoppable” Founding Director convinced me that YJC was going to have an increasingly profound impact on the lives of many of Evanston’s disadvantaged young adults. I wanted to be part of that.

What is your occupation?

Retired. Forty-six year career first as an operating company executive (P&G, Gillette, Quaker Oats and Rand McNally), and later as a management consultant to well over 100 for-profit and nonprofit clients as a co-founding partner with The Everest Group. Focus on Marketing and Growth Strategy Development.

What was your first job?

Unloading trucks and stocking shelves in warehouse

What did you learn from your first job?

There's a big difference between “doing the job” and “doing a quality job.” Doing quality-level work in any job can provide an opportunity for recognition and possible advancement to a better job with the aid of a strong supervisor reference.
