Sherita

December 2015 Client of the Month

Position: Back Office Agent
Employer: H&M

Sherita joined Youth Job Center for the first time in 2014 as a participant interested in the Women Invested in Learning & Livelihoods (WILL) career advancement program. Upon applying for 1 of the 30 slots, she was accepted into the 4th cohort of the program and is now graduating December 2015 after a year of hard work and dedication. In just one year, after conceiving her second child this August, Sherita was able to advance significantly, both on the job and also with her education. She was able to rid herself of past education debt that stopped her from re-enrolling in school, and now she is only 2 classes shy of her Associate’s Degree in Education! She was also promoted at work while in her third trimester of pregnancy, and, shortly upon returning to work after maternity leave, she was awarded Employee of the Month as well! Sherita has done a fantastic job overcoming adversity and staying motivated to succeed, despite any and all setbacks. She has obtained a $5 wage increase and is cleaning up her credit through financial literacy advising.

As the 2015 WILL Woman of the Year, Sherita looks back on her year in the WILL program:

I’ve learned through the various workshops how to manage my financial state, how to excel in the workplace, how to use my strenghths to overcome my weaknesses. Through each meeting and discussion I’ve learned that I am not alone in these struggles that I have faced. I’ve learned that no matter how deep of a hole I have dug, there are ways to get out and reach the stars!

Congratulations Sherita! WILL WOMAN for life!
