When did you join the YJC Board?

I joined the Board in 2010.

Why did you join the YJC Board?

I had heard from Mary Clark and Jeff Coney about the work that YJC did and was impressed. I finished my service on another Board, had time available and asked if there were any openings. The rest is history.

What is your occupation?

I provide strategic and operational consulting services and leadership coaching to closely held and family businesses. I have also written a book, Becoming An Insightful Leader: Charting your Course to Personal Success.

What was your first job?

I worked in the paper room of the "Junk Yard," now known as a recycling center. I baled post consumer paper for resale. (Business owned by father and uncles) I worked during summers between freshman and sophomore and sophomore and junior years in HS. My co-workers were people who often did not have much beyond an elementary school education

What did you learn from your first job?

I learned the value of education. In order to do more than a manual job, more education was needed. I learned to ask questions and that there was much to be learned from even those who had not had the benefit of advanced education. I learned that respect has to be earned. I learned that the golden rule, i.e. do unto others as you would have them do unto you, is real.
