JEREMIAH

AGE: 18
POSITION:
Brand associate
EMPLOYER: Old Navy

Jeremiah had never had a job, and he wanted to change that. Ready to get started—and especially interested in working at Old Navy—Jeremiah connected with YJC thanks to the folks at Westmont High School.

At YJC, Jeremiah got top-notch support to help him achieve his goal, including interview coaching (since he had never participated in a job interview before) and preparation for entering the TWO program. Thanks to his savvy engagement with these resources, Jeremiah was soon invited to interview at an Old Navy store.

The job was ultimately offered to another applicant, but Jeremiah didn’t let that stop him, embodying the wisdom of that old adage “If at first you don’t succeed, try, try again.” He continued to work with his coach and soon secured an interview at another Old Navy store. This time, the team “fell in love with him” and happily offered him a position on the staff.

General manager Juanita White proudly states that she and her team are incredibly impressed with Jeremiah's determination, resilience, and hard work. On top of that, Jeremiah is always eager to learn new things, building his versatility by working in a variety of departments throughout the store. (So it should come as no surprise that he’s been named Employee of the Month!)

Jeremiah is also YJC’s Client of the Month because he didn’t let his lack of experience or his initial rejections stop him from reaching—and then exceeding—his goal.

Jeremiah has been at Old Navy for two years now, and his life has expanded as a result. He's not only gained solid employment (and a steady income) but has thrived, earning the respect of his colleagues, expanding his professional toolkit, and building invaluable self-confidence.

As Jeremiah prepares to attend DuPage College in the fall, he takes comfort in knowing that he will remain a valued part of the Old Navy Downers Grove family. YJC looks forward to supporting and celebrating Jeremiah’s continued growth as he charts his professional course.
