Marquise Martin began working with the Youth Job Center in May 2021 when he began his Internship with the This Way ONward Internship Program with the Old Navy Brand Stores over the summer of 2021. In a short 10-week period, Marquise showed that you can do anything if you put your mind to it after successfully completing his internships and receiving an offered a permanent position as a Brand Associate at the Old Navy at Ford City. Being determined to pursue his dream of furthering his post-secondary education and wanting to began school at Harold Washington City College, Marquise declined the position as a Brand Associate and moved on to complete the Youth Job Center's 2-week Work Readiness Training (WRT). Marquise used the skills he learned in WRT to help him seek more job opportunities and was subsequently connected with Youth Job Center Employment Relationship Manager Ivan Ramos to complete mock interviews. He also attended the YJC Virtual Job Fair Event to gain insight and get additional information on additional job opportunities available to him.
After attending the YJC Virtual Job Fair, Marquise was hired as a crew member at the Theater at Ford City Mall. Some advice that Marquis offers to those that might find themselves in his shoes is,
“Never give up and always look at the cup as always half full and never half empty. Trouble is only temporary, believe in yourself.”
Marquise’ future is very bright and we can’t wait to see where the future will take him.
