Age: 24
Position: Chiropractic Technician
Employer: Medulla LLC
Employed: July 2021
Prior to joining YJC, Sarah had enrolled in college courses and soon realized it wasn’t the right fit for her. After seeing her sister benefit from YJC services years earlier, she was encouraged to join YJC and became a participant in April 2021. From the start, Sarah actively participated in Work Readiness Training, shared great insight, and felt motivated and supported by YJC staff to explore her interests in the medical and culinary fields.
Through YJC’s Career Pathways Program, Sarah participated in a 12-week paid internship at Curt’s Café as an Administrative Assistant to the executive director, Susan. In addition to working closely with the staff to plan programs, she received mentorship from Susan, also a chef, on restaurant management. While Sarah enjoyed the internship, she also wanted to apply her office skills to the medical field in radiology. Through YJC’s partnership with Medulla LLC, she applied and was hired on as a full time Chiropractic Technician. In this role, she works directly with doctors to provide patient care, performs general office duties, and will be able to pursue licensure to take films (radiographs/x-rays). Sarah is thrilled with her success and has this advice to share with other young folks,
“Don’t give up. It may seem like life can be against you or that you’re stuck. Go at your own pace. Remember that it’s going to take a lot of trial and error. But even just a little effort gets the ball rolling. The more you work towards those dreams, the more you start to see things align and become your reality.”
