August 2015 Client of the Month
Position: Bakery Clerk
Employer: Whole Foods
Laura made her way to Youth Job Center from Evanston Township High School (ETHS) in 2009 when she was eighteen. She liked to cook from time to time, but did not give a lot of thought to pursuing a career in culinary arts. Laura was a dedicated, but shy participant, in the Job Readiness Training program. She graduated from ETHS while working two summer camp counseling positions. After graduating from ETHS, she continued her employment with some part time positions, but knew she wanted more.
In April 2015, Youth Job Center launched its inaugural Culinary Career Pathways cohort and Laura decided to participate. She was a little hesitant when the class first started, but she became more active and vocal with each class. Laura was the only participant to have 100% attendance for class and her paid work experience. She completed her internship at the catering company Feast & Imbibe where she received rave reviews. Throughout the program, Laura demonstrated that she is professional, dependable, and fun to be around. Laura is now employed at Whole Foods in the bakery. She has been doing great, as we all knew she would. She has grown leaps and bounds here at Youth Job Center and we wish her all the best.
