Dimitry Glater

Store Manager, Starbucks Coffee Company

Dimitry Glater is one of the few people whose first job was in a similar field to his current career, though he says that his career path has not gone at all how he expected.

Glater currently works as a store manager for YJC employer partner Starbucks Coffee Company, but his first job was pushing carts at Sam's Club when he was 18.

"I hated being outside," says Glater, "but I did it because it was my job." Glater readily admits that his perseverance paid off, as he moved steadily up through the company.

Glater says that one of the most important lessons he learned from his first job was that "what [you] feel doesn't always matter."

"If you have an end goal," says Glater, "you push through even if you don't always enjoy the process. This is just the path."

Glater worked at Sam's Club all though college, where he earned a degree in electrical engineering. He bursts into laughter when asked if his career path has gone how he expected.

"Not at all," answers Glater. "I've changed my mind about [my career] a lot. I didn't find anything I liked to do with my engineering degree."

Glater is okay with this, though.

"I'm still working on moving forward," he says. "That's the most important thing to me: to keep growing."
