Jose Leon

When did you join the YJC Board?
2014
Why did you join the YJC Board?
What started as a coffee donation request has turned into nearly a 10 year relationship with the YJC. Most people would not describe me as an idealist, but I believe wholeheartedly that the time we spend with our clients – whether its 2 weeks or 2 years - has the potential to change the trajectory of their lives. Whether showing youth how to improve an application or resume, conducting a mock interview, teaching customer service skills, or actually offering a client a job, being on the YJC board allows me the opportunity to use my skills and experience to help those who are just starting out on their career journeys. It is rewarding to know that by helping remove even just one barrier for our clients can help open a world of opportunities they may never have known!
What is your occupation?
My experience is in single and multi-unit retail management and most recently I was a District Manager with Starbucks. I am currently CEO of GameON Chicago.
What was your first job?
I received my work permit my sophomore year of high school. I was a camp supervisor for the Chicago Park District and a cashier at True Value Hardware.
What did you learn from your first job?
Time management, how to multi-task, how to work with customers/the public, communication skills, cash handling, and the importance of putting effort into everything you do!
