What do you like most about your job?
The opportunity to make a positive difference in the lives of young people.
Where did you work before YJC?
I worked with the Schuler Scholar Program as an Academic Coach. My role involved preparing high school students with the necessary skills and knowledge to succeed at selective colleges and universities across the U.S.
What was your first job?
Sales associate at Marshalls. My friends also worked there so it was quite memorable.
What did you learn from your first job?
Being able to adapt to busy situations, and figuring out your priorities. It takes a lot of patience to work in retail :)
Has your career path gone the way you expected?
Not at all! Throughout various parts of my life I considered being an environmental engineer, social worker, teacher or school counselor. At this point in my life I am happy with my career choices, because I now have a better idea of the values that I seek in a job.
Fun fact:
I was originally born in Guyana. I spent most of my childhood there before immigrating to Chicago with my family. I have traveled to eight countries outside of the U.S. and am planning to add more to my list.
