Alfredo Vargas

Director of Safety & Sanitation
Urban Farmer LLC

When did you join the YJC Board?

I joined the YJC Board in September 2025.

Why did you join the YJC Board?

I joined because I wanted to find a meaningful way to continue serving others after retiring from military service. YJC’s mission to empower young people through employment and skill development deeply aligns with my personal values and professional purpose. It’s an opportunity to give back by helping guide future generations toward successful and sustainable careers.

What is your occupation?

I am the Director of Safety and Sanitation at Urban Farmer, a food manufacturing company making better-for-you foods. In my role, I am deeply committed to keeping both our employees and the food we produce safe. I lead initiatives that strengthen workplace culture, ensure compliance, and drive continuous improvement across the organization.

What was your first job?

My first job was as a host at Ed Debevic’s in Chicago during the summer of 2000, after my high school graduation, as I awaited my ship date to Army Basic Training.

What did you learn from your first job?

That experience taught me the importance of teamwork, professionalism, and humility.  Three lessons that continue to guide me today. It also gave me a lasting appreciation for the service industry and the importance of treating everyone with respect, no matter their role.
